House of Amavas

About AMAVAS

AMAVAS is a new Indian house of perfume, founded in 2026. We make fragrances built from the scent vocabulary of the Indian night, composed at 20% parfum concentration and wear-tested in Indian heat, and we release them on amavasya, the darkest night of Diwali.

Why the name

Amavas is the Hindi word for the new-moon night, the one night a month with no moon at all. Diwali falls on amavasya. The whole country lights lamps on the darkest night of the year, and that is the idea the house is built on: light is born on the darkest night.

What we make

Four fragrances make up the First Moon collection: Raat Rani, Khoya, Pehli Baarish and Pehla Nasha. Each is a 100 ml bottle at 20% parfum concentration. The Discovery Ritual holds all four in 9 ml sizes, and its full price is redeemable against your first full bottle. The Festival Pack holds all four in full size.

The bottle is a slab of matte black glass with a polished silver sphere for a cap, the moon sitting on the night. Everything is blended and bottled in India.

Why India needed its own house

India is the most scented civilisation on earth. Raat ki rani spilling over night streets, monsoon striking hot earth, saffron warming milk, sandalwood curling through temple smoke. Kannauj has distilled attars for longer than Grasse has existed. Fine perfumery borrowed these notes for decades and sold them back to us as someone else's idea.

AMAVAS composes from that vocabulary directly. Not perfume inspired by India. Perfume that could come from nowhere else.

Made for Indian weather

Most fine fragrance is composed for European temperatures and falls apart by lunchtime. Ours is wear-tested in Indian heat and humidity at 20% concentration, so it is built to last a full day on skin.
