Pehla Nasha is the AMAVAS fragrance built on ruh gulab, the rose oil distilled in Kannauj, warmed with honey and amber and held down by musk and cedar. The name means first intoxication, and it is composed to feel like one: a rose that is warm rather than pretty.
Why Kannauj rose
Most rose in fine fragrance is Bulgarian or Turkish. Kannauj rose, distilled the old way in copper over water, is deeper and jammier, closer to gulkand than to a florist's bouquet. That is the rose we wanted, and it is the rose in this bottle.
How it is composed
- Opening: the rose, straight away, with a little honey.
- Heart: amber and a resinous warmth as the honey settles.
- Base: musk and cedar, dry enough to keep the rose from turning powdery.
Who it is for
Anyone. It is the most classically perfume-like of the four, and the one people reach for in the evening. It is not gendered.
How long it lasts
20% parfum concentration, wear-tested in Indian heat. Rose and amber both bloom in warmth, so it grows through the day rather than fading.
